Acetylsalicylic acid reaches the peak plasma concentration after 20 minutes, and the salicylic acid concentration reaches the peak after 1 hour. The distribution of this product conforms to the two-compartment open model. Most of the salicylate is bound to plasma proteins, and is mainly bound and hydroxylated in the liver to form inactive metabolites, which are excreted by the kidneys.
